With every order of wooden blocks, we include our pretty good CD-ROM filled with turn of the century pictures that are in the public domain, similar to those above. These pictures can be used to stimulate ideas in small children and provide an opportunity to tell stories about other lands and peoples. A child needn't work with toy blocks according to a rigid plan. Instead, it's better to let children use the pictures freely and let them show you what they see. Building blocks are very versatile, and you will surprised how interesting builders can be when divorced from rigid ideas about how things should look. The pictures are Bitmap files scanned from woodcuts at 300 dpi and can be enlarged up to as much as page size. Some are in color and some in black and white, these pictures can be colored with crayons or any of the available "draw" programs. The CD includes about 150 pictures taken from early dictionaries and encyclopedias. Included are (1) Famous Buildings and Structures, (2) People and Clothing of the World, (3) Religions, Religious Monuments, and Religious figures, (4) Mysterious Musical Instruments, (5) Turn of the Century Machines and Tools, and (6) Ancient Weapons, Armor, and Fortifications. |
