The Toy Blocks Kits on this page are suitable for youngsters from 1 year to about 3.  During these early years, they are gaining coordination, learning to abstract features, and using these to distinguish shape names - or maybe it's vice versa.  Eventually, they will learn to stack blocks:  two at first, and then three or more. They are learning to play cooperatively and the best fun comes from playing with them as they will quickly mimic small structures that you build and learn the words you use to describe them.  Gentle supervision will also help them interact and share with others.  They are not usually as interested in the blocks as you are - instead, they are enjoying the interaction with an adult and they enjoy praise for little triumphs. They don't require a very big set of blocks.  These blocks are the same as those in our bigger kits and you can always add more later from our Booster Kits or Open Stock.

Our "A" Kits are somewhat more detailed and offer a wider range of pieces.  The "B" Kits are chunkier with somewhat larger pieces.  In general, "A" Kits and "B" Kits are the same size (volume/weight).  Our Building Blocks Kits come in Premium Hard Maple (all firsts), Hard Maple First & Seconds (USA), and European Beech.  Read about "Quality Differences " to explore the differences.  To see a bigger picture of the wood blocks kits, click on the picture icon( ).  The pictures give a visual image, but the "List of Pieces" is the definitive list of what is in a kit.
